Massage

“Because touch is food!”

What is it?

We live in a world now where touch is so often neglected or misused. This was not always the case, though. Indigenous communities the world over are no strangers to carrying their children close to their bodies or of raising them in an environment where massage is an integral part of everyday life, both affirming their innate sense of self and engendering a state of optimum health.

From my earliest beginnings, my Client group has steadily expanded to provide the benefits of massage and positive touch to each of the following participants:

• Aromatherapy Massage (adults/children/babies)
• Massage in Pregnancy & Post-Partum (including scar tissue)
• Massage for Labour
• Merishia Equine Massage
• Merishia Canine Massage

If a body keeps still for long enough – there’s a good chance I’ll end up massaging it!

What can I expect from a session?

Human

Massage has innumerable health benefits, as it stimulates the flow of blood and lymph around the body, communicates with the nervous system, and acts on the musculo-skeletal system. It has the ability to be both relaxing and stimulating, to effect deep, sought after tension release, and to restore balance both physically and emotionally.

Most often applied in conjunction with Aromatherapy oils, in a human context, I will employ a range of strokes, techniques, pressures and positions best suited to meet the individual Client’s needs.

The initial Consultation process and medical questionnaire presents a background picture and highlights any areas of particular concern to both Client and Practitioner.

I am also happy to impart my knowledge and expertise surrounding Baby Massage and all aspects of Exploring Pregnancy to interested care-givers/parents/partners in a Workshop format.

Animal

Unsurprisingly, comparable benefits apply to our equine and canine friends. A massage session for a horse, dog (or other pet) is carried out in the presence of the owner, with full prior consent from their Vet. An advance Consultation and movement assessment provides the necessary starting point.

Just like us, animals are prone to both physical and emotional imbalances which can manifest as dis-ease and dis-comfort in the body. Massage works to address muscle tension, create greater freedom of movement and to enhance performance.

Your animal will experience the full benefits of a Swedish style massage routine incorporating a range of strokes, techniques and pressures, as appropriate.

*Contraindications apply and, in the instance of such, referral to your GP/Vet will be advised.
